An IPMS (UK) Special Interest Group.
Dedicated to all things designed to
take-off and alight on water.
FLYING BOATS
Aircraft that use the fuselage as a hull for the main point of contact with the water, with small outrigger floats for stability.
HELICOPTERS
These come with boat hulls, like a Sea King, or with floats, like a little Hughes 500.
FLOAT PLANES
Aircraft whose fuselage is not designed to contact the water. Instead floats are used, where you might expect undercarriage, normally without outriggers.
EKRANO PLANES
These really are 'flying' boats. When hydro foils just aren't quick enough, boats equipped with small wings and BIG engines provide fast sea-going transportation.
HOVERCRAFT
Yes, these take-off (well almost) from water and almost anywhere else come to think of it.
They definitely have a home here at Splash.
